Massive Landslides in Wayanad, Kerala: Over 200 Dead, Rescue Operations Underway

Over 200 people have died and many are injured following landslides in Wayanad, Kerala. The landslides struck Mundakkai and Churalmala on July 30, causing extensive destruction.

Rescue Operations

Rescue operations are ongoing with the Indian Army, NDRF, and other forces on the ground. DIG Mohsen Shahidi confirmed that sufficient teams are present to undertake rescue efforts. On the first day, 150 people were rescued.

Government Response

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held a meeting to discuss the situation and assured swift rescue and rehabilitation efforts. He appreciated the Army’s efforts in coordinating the rescue operations. Several ministers and officials attended the meeting.

Efforts on the Ground

The Indian Coast Guard and other teams are actively searching for missing persons and providing urgent aid. An improvised 100-foot bridge was constructed by the Army’s Madras Sappers to aid in evacuations.
