Four Dead, Three Missing

A huge landslide happened in Uttara Kannada, Karnataka, causing the deaths of four people and leaving three others missing. The landslide was caused by heavy rains and took place near Shirur village in Ankola Taluk on National Highway 66.

People from Ankola Taluk have moved to care centers in Shirur village for safety. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for heavy rain in the area.

Rescue Operations

Deputy Commissioner Lakshmi Priya said that a tea stall with five people and two houses were affected by the landslide. Four bodies have been found, but three people are still missing. A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with the Navy and Coast Guard, is working on the rescue operations.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is trying to clear the road to allow traffic to pass. This work is expected to take 24 to 48 hours, depending on the weather.
