On Tuesday, voters in Maryland joined others from 25 states in eastern and central America to cast their votes in the 2024 US presidential election. Lisa Rogen, a Maryland voter, emphasized the importance of change, stating, “We just need a change in the country. Period.”

Rob Amchin, another voter, highlighted the anxiety surrounding the election’s outcome and urged everyone to vote, saying, “It is so important that everyone comes out to vote today. It is an election like no other.” He expressed hope for unity post-election, wishing for an end to divisive conversations.

Mark, a Maryland resident, stressed the significance of voting as a right not everyone has, urging people to take advantage of it. He said, “It’s a right that not everybody in the world gets, so you have to take advantage of it and it does matter.”

Polling hours vary across states, with most locations open from 6 am to 8 pm. While exit polls will begin as voting starts, final results will be announced after all votes are counted. The main contest is between Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican candidate former President Donald Trump. Harris aims to become the first woman and first Indian-origin President of the US, while Trump seeks a historic return to the White House. Polls predict a close race, with Harris holding a slight lead in some surveys.
