Maryam Nawaz’s Parathyroid Treatment Claims Refuted by Doctor

In Islamabad, Pakistan, a gastroenterologist from Ohio State Wexner Medical Center has challenged a statement made by Maryam Nawaz, a prominent political figure in Pakistan. Maryam Nawaz claimed that her parathyroid condition could only be treated in the United States and Switzerland. She mentioned this while addressing her party workers, stating that she had a rare disease requiring treatment abroad.

Dr. Waqas Nawaz, the gastroenterologist, refuted this claim, emphasizing that parathyroid diseases such as hyperparathyroidism and hypoparathyroidism can be treated in many countries, including Pakistan, the UK, France, Germany, Australia, India, the UAE, and Qatar. He highlighted that medications like Cinacalcet, Bisphosphonates, and Denosumab, used to manage associated bone diseases, are available in Pakistan.

Dr. Nawaz expressed concern that Maryam Nawaz’s statement could lead to hopelessness among patients in Pakistan who are successfully treated for parathyroid conditions within the country. He stressed the importance of accurate information for patients seeking the best possible care.
