Maruti Suzuki’s Hisashi Takeuchi on India’s Car Market Potential and New Developments
Hisashi Takeuchi, the Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki, highlighted India’s potential for automakers due to its low car density of about 35 cars per 1,000 people. In contrast, the US and Europe have around 600 cars per 1,000 people, making India a key market for growth.
Takeuchi announced the construction of a new manufacturing facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana, set to start production next April. This plant will eventually produce one million cars annually, increasing Maruti Suzuki’s total production capacity in Haryana to two million units. Additionally, plans are underway to expand capacity in Gujarat to two million units, allowing Maruti Suzuki to produce four million cars annually for both Indian and export markets.
Regarding electric vehicles, Takeuchi mentioned that Maruti Suzuki will showcase its first electric SUV at the Bharat Mobility Global Auto Show in January in India, following its global premiere in Milan, Italy. The event will also introduce the supporting ecosystem for their electric vehicles.
Maruti Suzuki recently launched an updated version of its popular sedan, the Dzire, available in petrol and S-CNG models. The new Dzire is priced between Rs 679,000 and Rs 10,14,000, featuring new designs, enhanced safety, and additional features.
