A peace rally was held in Pune, Maharashtra, led by Maratha activist Manoj Jarange-Patil. The rally aimed to advocate for the inclusion of the Maratha community in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation category.

Rally Details

The rally was organized by the Maratha Kranti Morcha on Sunday. It aimed to mobilize local community members in support of the long-standing reservation demand. Manoj Jarange Patil and his supporters have been demanding that the Maratha community be classified as Kunbis and included in the OBC category.

Address to the Community

After a 6-hour march to Pune, Patil addressed the Maratha community gathered in the Deccan area of Pune city. He stated, “The government tried to terrorize our community from the start of this agitation, which also created confusion among the community that Maratha could not unite; therefore, we are here to show that we are strong and united.”

Patil also accused Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of conspiring against him. He warned, “If he doesn’t stop conspiring against me, then I will do a proper program of yours.”

Call to Action

Patil emphasized the need for the Maratha community to fight for reservation. He said, “Without reservation, Maratha community people are not getting admission in educational institutions, not getting government jobs, and not getting promotions.”

He urged the community to come out of their homes and fight for their rights. He also announced a meeting on August 29 in Antarvali Sarati, Jalna, to decide their political stand in the upcoming election.

Ongoing Campaign

Jarange-Patil has been actively campaigning across Western Maharashtra since August 7. His tour has covered several districts, including Solapur, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Satara, and culminated in Pune on August 11. The rally drew a large turnout of Maratha community members, who assembled to demand recognition of their rights and inclusion in the OBC category.

The event was intended to be a peaceful demonstration of the community’s resolve and commitment to their cause. The rally started from Sarasbag and concluded at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj statue in the Deccan area with an address by Manoj Jarange Patil.
