Maoist Couple Surrenders in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli
A Maoist couple with a bounty of 10 lakh rupees has surrendered to security forces in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra. The couple includes 27-year-old Varun Raja Muchaki, a Commander in Bhamragadh LOS, and 24-year-old Roshani Vijya Wachami, a Party Member in the same group. Their surrender increases the total number of surrendered Maoists to 674, thanks to the Maharashtra government’s Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy.
Background of the Couple
Varun Muchaki joined the Maoist organization in 2015 and has held various positions, including Deputy Commander and Dalam Commander. He was wanted for 15 crimes, including 10 encounters. Roshani Wachami joined the same year and worked in different areas. The couple cited difficulties in leading an independent married life and alleged misuse of funds by senior leaders as reasons for their surrender.
Government’s Efforts
Earlier this month, Amit Shah held a meeting with Chief Ministers of Left Wing Extremism-affected states, urging Naxalite youth to surrender. He noted that 13,000 individuals have already done so in other regions. Additionally, 31 Naxalites were killed in a recent operation in Chhattisgarh.
