Manu Bhaker Wins Bronze at Paris Olympics
New Delhi [India], July 28: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju congratulated Manu Bhaker for winning a bronze medal at the ongoing Paris Olympics on Sunday. The Indian shooter finished third in the Women’s Air Pistol event.
Kiren Rijiju praised Manu Bhaker on his official X handle, saying, “India strikes its first Olympic Medal at the #ParisOlympics2024! Extending Hearty Congratulations to @realmanubhaker on winning India’s 1st Olympic Bronze Medal in Shooting. India is proud of you Manu.”
The 22-year-old Bhaker became the first Indian woman to win a medal in shooting at the Olympics. She scored 221.7 points to secure the bronze medal, marking a significant comeback after her pistol malfunctioned at the Tokyo Olympics.
South Korea’s Ye Jin won the gold medal with an Olympic record of 243.2 points, while her compatriot Kim Yeji took silver with 241.3 points.
On the opening day, Bhaker finished third in the qualification round of Women’s 10 Metre Air Pistol to qualify for the final. Rhythm Sangwan, however, did not make it to the final, finishing in 15th place.
