Search Operations in Kakching and Churachandpur

On October 5, Manipur Police, along with security forces, conducted search operations in the hill and valley districts of Manipur, recovering a significant amount of ammunition and warlike stores. The operations took place in vulnerable areas, including Wabagai Natekhong and Turenmei in Kakching District, and Khengmol Hill in Churachandpur District.

Items Recovered

The recovered items included three carbines with magazines, an air gun rifle, two single barrels, a 9mm pistol with magazine, grenades, a mortar, explosive IEDs, detonators, tear smoke shells, anti-riot rubber bullets, and various other ammunition and equipment.

Efforts Appreciated by Chief Minister

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the state and central governments in ensuring the safe return of two youths allegedly abducted from Kangpokpi on September 27. The youths were safely returned to the custody of Manipur Police.

Background of Violence

Violence in Manipur began on May 3 last year following clashes during a rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) to protest against the demand for the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category.
