In a significant operation, Manipur Police, along with other security forces, conducted a joint operation in the hill and valley districts, leading to the recovery of several weapons, including rockets and improvised mortars. The operation took place on Thursday, with security forces conducting search operations in vulnerable areas.

Weapons Recovered

The recovered items included two rockets measuring approximately 8 feet, two rockets measuring about 7 feet, two large country-made mortars, one medium-sized country-made mortar, three improvised mortar bombs, one radio set, and two country-made grenades. These were confiscated from Panjang village in Churachandpur District.

Arrests Made

Manipur Police arrested eight members of the banned outfit United Liberation Front of Manipur (Pambei) in Thoubal district. The arrests were made on Monday, with the individuals identified as Laishram Atangba Meitei, Leishangthem Nongpok Meitei, Thongam Khangakpa Meitei, Thiyam Ningthou Meitei, Akoijam Thoupangba Meitei, Thounaojam Sugnu Ngakpa, Ngasepam Nongthouba Meitei, and Sorokhaibam Nganba. Police seized three AK-47 rifles, two AK-56 rifles, one M-16 rifle, one 9mm pistol, and various rounds of live ammunition from their possession.

Additional Operations

On October 28, a PLA cadre named Moirangthem Maniton Singh was arrested in Imphal West for extortion activities. Earlier, on October 24, the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered 11 weapons from Churachandpur, Chandel, and Thoubal districts.

The situation in Manipur remains tense but under control. Security forces have ensured the safe movement of vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2, with strict security measures in place. A total of 110 checkpoints have been installed across the state.
