Manipur Peace Talks: A Step Towards Harmony
In Imphal, Manipur Congress President Keisham Meghachandra Singh expressed support for the peace talks organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs. He stated that the talks would be welcomed if they result in positive outcomes for the people of Manipur. The meeting, scheduled for October 15 in Delhi, will bring together representatives from the Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities for the first time since violence erupted in May last year.
Efforts to Restore Peace
According to official sources, the discussions aim to find solutions to the ongoing crisis and restore peace in the region. Manipur minister Awangbow Newmai noted that the situation in the state has improved and is “slowly subsiding” since the violence began. He arrived in Delhi to attend the talks, expressing hope for a constructive agenda.

Representatives from the Meitei community, including Thongam Biswajit and Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata, are expected to attend. The Kuki community will be represented by Letpao Haokip and others, while Naga MLAs and ministers such as Awangbow Newmai and L. Dikho will also participate. This marks the first direct discussions between Kuki and Meitei representatives, showcasing the Centre’s commitment to fostering dialogue.
