Manipur Minister Awangbow Newmai Attends Peace Talks in Delhi
Manipur minister Awangbow Newmai has stated that the situation in the state is improving and “slowly subsiding” since the violence erupted in May last year. He arrived in Delhi to participate in peace talks scheduled for October 15. The meeting, organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs, will include representatives from the Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities. This is the first meeting between these groups since the violence began, aiming to find solutions to the ongoing crisis and restore peace in the region.

From the Meitei community, attendees include Thongam Biswajit, Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata, Thounaojam Basantakumar, Khongbantabam Ibomcha, Sapam Ranjan, Thokchom Radhe-Shyam, and Tongbram Robindro. The Kuki community will be represented by Letpao Haokip, Paolienlal Haokip, and Haokholet Kipgen. Naga MLAs and ministers participating include Awangbow Newmai, L. Dikho, and Ram Muivah.
This initiative highlights the Centre’s commitment to facilitating dialogue between the fractured communities, marking a significant step towards peace.
