Manipur Extends Internet Ban in Five Districts Amid Law and Order Concerns
The Manipur government has extended the suspension of internet and mobile data services in five districts until September 20 due to ongoing law and order issues. The affected districts are Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bisnupur, and Kakching.
The ban, initially imposed on September 10 for five days, was extended as the situation remained tense. The State’s Home Department released an order to this effect.
On September 13, DIG Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Manish Kumar Sachar visited Thangkanphai village in Kangpokpi district and Songpehjang relief camp in Saikul Hilltown. He interacted with representatives of the Kuki community and noted that over 100 families in the relief camp wish to return to their normal lives.
Meanwhile, on September 12, the Indian Army, Manipur Police, CRPF, and Border Security Force conducted a joint operation in Churachandpur district. They recovered significant quantities of arms, ammunition, and other warlike stores, including an AK Series Assault Rifle and improvised mortars.
