Allegations of Political Vendetta

In Imphal, Manipur, the Congress party has raised concerns over the treatment of their state president, Keisham Meghachandra Singh. The party claims that Meghachandra is being targeted for speaking out about the ongoing violence in Manipur. According to Congress spokesperson Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, Meghachandra has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as a form of political harassment.

Meitei expressed these concerns on social media, stating that the Congress will challenge the ED summons in court. He emphasized that Meghachandra cannot be silenced by the government for advocating for the people of Manipur.

Support from Congress Leaders

Jairam Ramesh, Congress General Secretary in-charge of communications, also commented on the situation. He accused the government of using the ED summons to distract from its failures in handling the violence in Manipur. Ramesh highlighted that Meghachandra has been vocal against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, criticizing their approach to the crisis.

Ramesh further alleged that the government’s actions are an attempt to cover up its shortcomings, noting that the Prime Minister has not visited Manipur since the violence began 17 months ago. He assured that the Congress party will not be intimidated.

Call for Government Action

On August 19, Meghachandra criticized the BJP-led state government and the central government for their lack of response to the violence. He urged the Prime Minister to visit Manipur and called for a clear plan to restore peace, which he claims has not been provided despite repeated requests from the opposition.
