Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and EAM S Jaishankar Ensure Safe Return of Manipuris from Bangladesh

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has communicated with Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar to arrange the safe evacuation of Manipuris from Bangladesh. The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for the steps taken by Jaishankar to ensure the safety of Indian citizens.

EAM Jaishankar stated that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is focused on the safety and well-being of Indian nationals in Bangladesh. The High Commission of India in Dhaka and Assistant High Commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Khulna are assisting in the return of Indian nationals.

The protests in Bangladesh are driven by demands for reform in the civil service job quota system. In response, Bangladesh has imposed a curfew and disabled mobile internet services. So far, 778 Indian students have returned through land ports, and 200 have returned via flights. The MEA is also assisting students from Nepal and Bhutan.
