Imphal (Manipur) [India], July 14: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has strongly condemned an attack in Jiribam that resulted in the death of a CRPF personnel. The Chief Minister expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Taking to social media platform X, Biren Singh stated, “I strongly condemn the killing of a CRPF personnel in an attack carried out by an armed group, suspected to be Kuki militants, in Jiribam district today.” He added, “His supreme sacrifice in the line of duty shall not go in vain. The attack occurred when a convoy of security officials in Jiribam district was ambushed by insurgents. One CRPF personnel was killed and several others were injured.

Manipur has been experiencing ethnic violence since May 2023. The unrest began on May 3, following clashes during a rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) to protest against the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his address in the Rajya Sabha last week, reaffirmed that the central government is making efforts to normalize the situation in Manipur. In June, Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted a high-level meeting to review the security situation in Manipur and directed that no further incidents of violence should occur.
