Manas National Park in Assam Reopens for Visitors on September 27
Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam is set to welcome visitors again starting September 27, 2024, after the monsoon closure period mandated by the Government of India. The park will be open six days a week, except Wednesdays, following guidelines from the National Tiger Conservation Authority and the Chief Wildlife Warden of Assam.
Dr. C Ramesh, Chief Conservator of Forests and Field Director of Manas Tiger Reserve, announced that the park will operate in compliance with the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and the Assam Wildlife (Protection) Rules, 1997. This ensures that conservation efforts continue alongside tourism activities.
Manas National Park is a biodiversity hotspot and a Project Tiger Reserve. Recently, three rhino calves, including two females and one male, rescued during floods in 2019, will be translocated to the park. This is part of a long-term project by IFAW-WTI with AFD and BTR, aimed at increasing the rhino population in the reserve.
