Man Arrested in Palghar for Robbing Women by Pretending to Marry Them
In Palghar, Maharashtra, the Nalasopara police have arrested a man named Firoz Niyazi Sheikh. He allegedly deceived over 20 women by pretending to marry them. Sheikh created fake online profiles to target widowed women, robbing them of their money and jewelry.
According to Vijay Singh Bagal, an officer at the Nalasopara police station, Sheikh met these women through online websites and disappeared after extracting large amounts of money from them. One of the victimized women lodged a complaint, prompting the police to investigate.
The police had no photos or contact numbers of Sheikh, as he frequently changed his phone number. To catch him, they created a woman’s profile on an online platform and contacted him. After conversing, they called him to Kalyan for a meeting and apprehended him there.
The police recovered three lakh rupees, women’s ATMs, chequebooks, six mobile phones, laptops, and gold and silver jewelry from Sheikh. He was presented in court and remanded to custody for two days.
