Man Arrested for Attack Near Japan’s LDP Headquarters

In Tokyo, Japan, a man named Atsunobu Usuda, aged 49, was arrested for allegedly throwing Molotov cocktails at the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) headquarters and crashing a van into a barrier near the Prime Minister’s Office. The incident occurred around 5:50 am local time. Several containers were found inside the vehicle, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. A police vehicle was partially burned during the attack.

Molotov cocktails, also known as petrol bombs, are often used by rioters to start fires. After crashing the van, Usuda reportedly threw a smoke flare at police officers but did not resist arrest. He has remained silent during questioning.

The LDP, Japan’s largest and one of the oldest political parties, was founded in the 1950s. LDP Secretary General Hiroshi Moriyama expressed his anger over the incident but confirmed that the party’s campaigning would continue as planned. Police and firefighters inspected the area, and the entrance to the Prime Minister’s office was secured with tape.

This incident follows the tragic event in 2022 when former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was stabbed to death while speaking to the media.
