Malvika Bansod Reaches US Open 2024 Semi-Finals in Texas
Indian badminton player Malvika Bansod advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s singles event at the US Open 2024 in Texas. On Friday, at the Fort Worth Convention Center, Malvika, ranked 49th in the world, overcame a game deficit to defeat Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour, a two-time Commonwealth Games medallist. The 57-minute match ended with Malvika winning 10-21, 21-15, 21-10.
In the semi-finals, Malvika will face Japan’s Natsuki Nidaira, who is ranked 38th in the world. The match saw Gilmour take an early lead, but Malvika managed to regain her rhythm and win the second and third games.
In other matches, China’s Lei Lan Xi, ranked 34th, defeated India’s Priyanshu Rajawat, ranked 40th, in the men’s singles quarterfinals with scores of 21-15, 11-21, 18-21. Additionally, in the women’s doubles event, India’s Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost to Japan’s Rui Hirokami and Yuna Kato in a 73-minute match that ended 21-17, 17-21, 21-19 in favor of the Japanese team.
