New Delhi [India], August 21: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed concern over the heavy rain and severe floods in Tripura. He noted that many lives were lost and about 5600 families sought refuge in relief camps. Kharge urged for immediate compensation and relief measures, including the deployment of more NDRF and SDRF teams.

Efforts by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha stated that the administration is prioritizing relief and rescue operations. He mentioned that the state government is in regular contact with the central government. Saha highlighted the unprecedented nature of the rainfall, with the South district recording 375 mm. He thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his support and requested additional NDRF teams.

Current Situation and Future Outlook

Joint efforts by NDRF, SDRF, and local authorities are ongoing to rescue stranded citizens. The floods have caused significant damage to homes, livestock, roads, electricity infrastructure, and crops. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the next two days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
