Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu to Visit India

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu is set to visit India starting October 7. This will be his first standalone bilateral visit to India since he took office last year. During the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Muizzu expressed his intention to visit India soon, highlighting the strong relationship between the two countries.

This visit will be Muizzu’s second trip to India this year, following his attendance at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in June. Traditionally, Maldivian presidents have made India their first foreign visit, but Muizzu initially visited Turkiye and China after assuming office.

Muizzu’s government has taken a reconciliatory approach towards India after previous tensions. His presidential campaign focused on the ‘India Out’ slogan, advocating for the removal of Indian troops from the Maldives.
