Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to Visit India for the First Time

Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, will be on a State visit to India from August 19 to August 21. He is visiting at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This will be his first visit to India as the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will receive a ceremonial welcome at the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 20. He will also visit Raj Ghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Following this, he will hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Modi, who will also host a luncheon in his honor.

During his visit, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to meet President of India Droupadi Murmu and External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar.

India and Malaysia share strong historical and socio-cultural ties. Their bilateral relationship was elevated to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership in 2015 during Prime Minister Modi’s visit. As both countries enter the second decade of this partnership next year, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit aims to further strengthen India-Malaysia relations by exploring multi-sectoral cooperation.

Last year, Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Shri V Muraleedharan visited Malaysia and held bilateral meetings with Malaysian officials. Additionally, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid an official visit to Malaysia in July last year.
