Balochistan [Pakistan], August 7: Mahrang Baloch, a prominent Baloch leader, has criticized Pakistani security forces for accusing the Baloch Yakjheti Committee (BYC) of being proxies for terrorist organizations. This accusation was made by the Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Pakistan.

Mahrang Baloch claimed that these accusations aim to discredit law enforcement and undermine provincial development by inciting violence and unrest. She stated that the BYC is being marginalized, forcing youth to resort to potentially violent means of activism when peaceful activism is not permitted.

She questioned the lack of evidence provided by the DG ISPR to support their claims and challenged them to take the matter to court. Baloch also mentioned that since the Baloch Raji Machi, or Baloch National Gathering, on July 28, numerous accusations have been made against BYC, including from Balochistan’s Chief Minister and cabinet members.

Responding to why Gwadar was chosen as the venue for the national gathering, Mahrang Baloch explained that promises made to Gwadar residents in 2007 and 2012 remain unfulfilled. Despite the launch of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in 2015, Gwadar still lacks basic necessities like a standard hospital and reliable electricity.

Mahrang Baloch noted that the government is actively trying to discredit the BYC and has disconnected Gwadar from the rest of the country, shutting down the internet. She highlighted the violent repression faced by peaceful protesters during a protest organized by the BYC on July 28, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries.
