Mahila Congress Protests in Ujjain Over Recent Rape Incidents
The Mahila Congress held a protest in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday to condemn recent rape incidents, including a shocking case where a woman was allegedly raped in broad daylight while bystanders filmed the crime and posted the video online. The protestors submitted a memorandum to the administration, demanding strict punishment for the accused.
Police reported that the main suspect, Lokesh, was arrested within two hours of the FIR being filed. Another person involved in filming the incident, Mohammad Salim, was also arrested. Ujjain SP Pradeep Sharma confirmed that the woman’s statement was recorded, and Lokesh was sent to Bherugarh Jail.
Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their silence on the Ujjain incident, while they protest nationwide against a similar crime in Kolkata. Patwari questioned the silence of BJP leaders, including MP CM Mohan Yadav and PM Narendra Modi.
In response, Madhya Pradesh BJP chief VD Sharma defended the government’s swift action in arresting the accused and sending him to jail. Sharma also highlighted that the MP government was the first in the country to introduce the death penalty for such crimes.
