Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], September 11: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis criticized Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his recent remarks on reservation. Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, Fadnavis claimed that Gandhi’s comments have “revealed the real face” of him and the Congress party.

Fadnavis said, “The statement given by Rahul Gandhi abroad has revealed the real face of him and the Congress party. Rahul Gandhi talks about saving the Constitution here and talks about ending reservations there. Congress has never given respect to Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar or the Constitution.”

He added, “This is the same Congress that twice stopped Babasaheb Ambedkar from entering the Lok Sabha and defeated him through conspiracy. The statement that has come out today has revealed their real face.”

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also criticized Gandhi, saying that his views reflect a petty mentality and that Congress often engages in politics based on religion and caste.

On September 9, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, said that the Congress party would consider scrapping reservations when India becomes a “fair place,” which it is not. He made these comments while interacting with students and faculty at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

Gandhi emphasized the need for a caste census, stating that 90 percent of the country’s population—OBCs, Dalits, and Adivasis—do not have proper representation. He said, “There’s an elephant in the room. When we talk about the capture of institutions, businesses, and the media, the elephant in the room is that 90 percent of India—OBCs, Dalits, Adivasis—aren’t even part of the game. That’s the elephant in the room.”

He further stressed that the INDIA bloc wants to defend the Constitution and that most alliance partners agree on holding a caste census. He added that ‘two businessmen’ should not run every business in the country.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also commented, saying that it has become a habit for the Congress leader to stand with “forces that conspire to divide the country.” Shah stated that the BJP would not let anyone abolish the reservation and compromise the nation’s security. He further alleged that Rahul Gandhi’s statements show his divisive policies.
