New Delhi, India – As the Maharashtra Assembly Elections approach, Ramesh Chennithala, the Maharashtra Congress in-charge, expressed confidence that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is ready to win, with the people supporting them. He criticized the current coalition government of BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, calling it the most corrupt in the country.

Chennithala announced that official discussions would start with the first MVA meeting on August 7 in Mumbai, and they would meet Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge. He also mentioned that seat sharing and the Chief Minister candidate would be announced soon.

Former Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray also spoke about the upcoming elections, targeting Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Thackeray stated that the battle is in the field and in Mumbai, emphasizing that either he or the BJP would stay.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced its intention to contest the upcoming elections, with preparations already underway in Mumbai. Additionally, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray revealed the names of candidates for two assembly seats: Bala Nandgaonkar for Shivadi Assembly constituency and Dilip Dhotre for Pandharpur.

The state is expected to go to polls for the 288-member legislative assembly later this year, as the current government’s tenure ends in 2024. However, the Election Commission has not yet announced the dates.

In the previous elections, the BJP’s seat count dropped to nine from 23 in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, with a vote share of 26.18%. The Congress improved slightly, securing 13 seats.
