Maharashtra Elections: Concerns Over Voter List Transparency

The Maharashtra Congress chief, Nana Patole, has raised concerns about the transparency of the upcoming assembly elections in the state. This follows accusations from the opposition alliance, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), that the ruling coalition is misusing government resources to manipulate voter lists.

Allegations of Voter List Manipulation

Nana Patole, along with other MVA leaders, claims that the Mahayuti government is removing legitimate voters and adding bogus ones. Patole stated, “We are not seeing any kind of transparency in the elections…It seems that the Election Commission is sitting under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s feet.”

An MVA delegation met with the chief electoral officer of Maharashtra to discuss these concerns and plans to submit a report to the Election Commission. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut accused the Mahayuti of misusing constitutional rights and warned of protests against the Election Commission.

Upcoming Elections

The assembly elections in Maharashtra are scheduled for November 20, with vote counting on November 23. The MVA, consisting of Congress, Shiv Sena-UBT, and NCP-SP, is challenging the ruling Mahayuti alliance of BJP, NCP, and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction).

In the 2019 elections, the MVA coalition won 154 out of 288 seats. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, MVA secured 30 out of 48 seats in Maharashtra.
