Maharashtra Elections: Seat-Sharing Finalized

The Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra, consisting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), is preparing for the upcoming assembly elections. The seat-sharing formula for the 288 seats has been nearly finalized in New Delhi.

Seat Distribution

The Eknath Shinde group is expected to contest 85-90 seats, Ajit Pawar’s NCP may get 50 seats, and the remaining will be contested by the BJP. The alliance believes it will benefit from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s popularity and initiatives like the Ladli Bahna Yojna, toll tax relaxation, and Maratha reservation.

Improved Position

A BJP leader mentioned that the coalition’s position has improved since the Lok Sabha polls, with the opposition’s narrative being countered. The alliance is optimistic about gaining support from Maratha voters due to their efforts on reservation issues.

Challenges and Focus Areas

The alliance faces tough competition in Western Maharashtra, including areas like Satara, Sangalli, and Baramati. However, they remain confident. The NCP, led by Ajit Pawar, aims to perform better than in the Lok Sabha polls, focusing on key regions in Western Maharashtra.
