Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis Criticizes MVA Over Shivaji Maharaj Statue Collapse
In Nagpur, Maharashtra, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis criticized the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) for their protest march following the collapse of a 35-foot-tall statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg. Fadnavis stated that the agitation is political and accused the MVA and Congress of never respecting Shivaji Maharaj. He cited instances where Congress leaders allegedly disrespected Shivaji Maharaj.
NCP general secretary and MP Sunil Tatkare also condemned the MVA for politicizing the incident, noting that the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, and both Deputy Chief Ministers have already apologized.
The Mumbai police have increased security in response to the MVA’s protest march from Hutatma Chowk to the Gateway of India. The statue, which was unveiled last December during Navy Day celebrations, collapsed on August 26. The state government is investigating the incident and has formed two committees to address the reconstruction and investigation of the statue’s collapse.
