Pune (Maharashtra) [India], July 25: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar visited flood-affected areas in Ekta Nagar and Vitthal Nagar of Pune city to assess the situation. He addressed public concerns and monitored the situation closely.

Ajit Pawar stated, “There was never such an issue of waterlogging or flooding here in these areas but we don’t know why it happened this time. We will talk to the locals and ask what they have to say about it. I spoke to them. We will speak to the technical team on this issue on what can be done next and take a further decision. For records and observations, the collector of the city, the commissioner of police and one official from the revenue department and the municipal corporation will come and do the needful.”

Meanwhile, amid the heavy rain in Pune, the District Fire Brigade rescued 70 people stranded in the flood waters in the Nimbjanagar area. The officials were conducting rescue and relief work in the city, which had been submerged in above-knee-level rainwater after heavy showers.

As Maharashtra faces continuous rainfall, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reviewed the situation in the state. He called the Raigad collector, instructed him to help all flood-affected people, and assured him of all necessary assistance.

Traffic was halted at Tamhini Ghat on the Raigad-Pune route due to debris from a landslide caused by the heavy rains. Raigad Police stated, “Traffic is stopped at Tamhini Ghat in the Raigad-Pune route due to a landslide. Traffic will be stopped for the next few hours until the debris is cleared.”

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a press release forecasting isolated extremely heavy rainfall over ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during July 25-27 and in Konkan & Goa on July 25-26 and Gujarat region on July 25. IMD observed exceptionally heavy rainfall over ghat areas of Pune, with Tamini recording around 56 centimeters of rain.
