Maharashtra Congress Prepares for State and BMC Elections with Leadership Changes
The Maharashtra Congress is gearing up for the upcoming state and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. The MVA leadership has agreed to contest these polls in alliance, and some Mumbai Congress leaders are urging changes in the party’s leadership structure to ensure victory.
Leadership Concerns
Currently, the Mumbai unit of the Congress is led by Varsha Gaikwad, who was recently elected to the Lok Sabha from Mumbai North East. With her new role, some Mumbai Congress leaders have written to the party high command, requesting changes in the city unit’s leadership. They expressed concerns about the current leadership’s lack of coordination and communication.
Meeting in New Delhi
On Tuesday, a meeting at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi will discuss preparations for the Maharashtra assembly polls. Many signatories of the letter are already in Delhi to attend the meeting.
BJP’s Analysis
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a meeting at Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s residence to analyze their performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections. The BJP’s seat count dropped to nine in Maharashtra, while the Congress improved to 13 seats.
Upcoming Elections
The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for this year to elect 288 members of the state’s legislative assembly. Both the Congress and BJP are preparing strategies to secure victories in these crucial elections.
