Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole Accuses BJP of Voter List Manipulation
On October 21, Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of manipulating voter lists in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. He claimed this was done out of fear of losing elections, which undermines democracy. Patole urged the Election Commission to remain independent from the central government. He stated, “We have provided proof to the Election Commission. EC should be alert and not become servitors to the Central Government.”
Congress Plans for Upcoming Elections
Patole also discussed seat sharing in Maharashtra, stating that Congress will consult with alliance leaders and announce their candidate list soon. A Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting is scheduled to discuss this further. Maharashtra Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat mentioned that candidate screening is underway, and the CEC meeting will be held soon.
Maha Vikas Aghadi’s Unity
Ramesh Chennithala, Congress election in-charge for Maharashtra, assured that there are no differences within the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, and seat discussions are ongoing. Maharashtra will vote on November 20, with results announced on November 23. In the 2019 elections, BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, and Congress 44. In 2014, BJP secured 122 seats, Shiv Sena 63, and Congress 42.
