Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde Responds to Heavy Rainfall and Landslides
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 25: As Maharashtra faces continuous heavy rainfall, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has taken stock of the situation. He has instructed the Raigad collector to assist all flood-affected people and assured them of all necessary help.
Traffic has been halted at Tamhini Ghat on the Raigad-Pune route due to debris from a landslide caused by the heavy rains. According to Raigad Police, traffic will be stopped for the next few hours until the debris is cleared.
Shinde mentioned that water is still present on roads and in houses in Pune. He has put the District Collector, Municipal Commissioner, and Police Commissioner on alert. There is significant rainfall at Khadakwasla Dam and in the catchment area.
Teams of NDRF and SDRF have been deployed, and army and airlifting teams are on alert. Shinde has appealed to people to cooperate with the administration and move to safer places. An orange alert has been issued in Mumbai for the next three hours, and 222 water pumps are working to drain excess water in different areas.
Water has accumulated on railway tracks in Kurla and Ghatkopar areas, and efforts are being made to open the Andheri subway. Shinde has advised Mumbaikars to stay indoors unless necessary. Schools and colleges in Pune have been closed due to the heavy rains in the Western Ghats.
