Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde Praises ‘One Nation, One Election’ Plan
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 19: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed strong support for the Union Cabinet’s approval of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal. He stated, “We welcome ‘One Nation, One Election’ cleared by the Union Cabinet because it will save time and money.”
Shinde explained that developmental projects often come to a halt when the code of conduct is enforced during elections. “The developmental work gets stopped when the code of conduct comes into force before any election. A lot of money and manpower also get engaged in it,” he added.
The Union Cabinet’s decision aims to synchronize Lok Sabha and assembly elections, along with urban body and panchayat polls, within a 100-day period. This proposal is based on a report from a High-level Committee on Simultaneous Elections, chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind. The report, submitted to President Droupadi Murmu earlier this year, is the result of extensive consultations and research over 191 days.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also praised the decision, stating that it reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to strengthening democracy and improving resource allocation. He mentioned on social media platform X that Bharat has been undergoing transformative reforms under PM Modi’s leadership.
