Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde Orders Crackdown on Illegal Pubs and Bars in Pune

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the Pune Police Commissioner to take strict action against illegal pubs and bars in Pune. This decision comes after a viral video showed minors consuming drugs in a bar’s washroom during a late-night party.

Earlier, Pune Police raided and sealed a popular bar, Liquid Leisure Lounge (L3), located on Fergusson College Road. The raid led to the arrest of eight people, including the bar owner Santosh Kamthe, franchisee Ravi Maheshwari, manager Manas Malik, two staffers, and three others. They were produced before a Pune Magistrate court and sent to police custody till June 29.

Four police officials, including an Assistant Police Inspector, a Police Inspector, and two constables, were suspended for neglecting their duties. The police have assured continued action against establishments involved in illegal activities to ensure the safety and well-being of minors in the city.

Additionally, a local right-wing group, Patit Paawan, vandalized the exterior of the bar in response to the incident.
