Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde Joins Cleanliness Drive at Girgaon Chowpatty
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 19: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde arrived at Girgaon Chowpatty in Mumbai to participate in the ‘Swachhata hi Seva’ drive. The Thane Municipal Corporation launched this campaign to highlight the importance of cleanliness in daily life.
During the event, Shinde, along with other party members, collected waste in garbage bags. He praised the initiative started by Prime Minister Modi in 2014-2015, stating, “PM Modi started this campaign in 2014-2015. A lot of people made several comments then. But today we all can see that this campaign is very successful not just in Mumbai but in the entire country.”
Shinde also expressed his gratitude to the cleaning staff, calling them the “true youth of Maharashtra.”
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, running from September 17 to October 2, 2024, aims to promote cleanliness and sanitation across India. The Department of Health Research and its autonomous body, ICMR, along with 27 institutes, will ensure widespread participation from citizens, communities, and organizations.
The campaign focuses on three key pillars:
- Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs): Shramdaan activities aimed at transforming specific target units and overall cleanliness.
- Swachhata Mein Jan Bhagidari: Public participation, awareness, and advocacy, engaging citizens in cleanliness efforts through various activities.
