Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde Cancels Shrikant Pangarkar’s Appointment in Shiv Sena

Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, has revoked the appointment of Shrikant Pangarkar within the Shiv Sena party. Pangarkar, who was accused in the murder case of journalist Gauri Lankesh, faced public backlash after being re-inducted into the party. Shinde, the chief leader of Shiv Sena, declared all district-level appointments of Pangarkar in Jalna as “null and void.”

This decision came just two days after Pangarkar was made the party’s poll campaign in-charge in Jalna. Pangarkar, a former Shiv Sena corporator, had rejoined the party on Friday. Gauri Lankesh was tragically shot outside her home in Bengaluru on September 5, 2017. Pangarkar was among 18 individuals arrested in connection with her murder, taken into custody in August 2018, and granted bail by the Karnataka High Court in September this year.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with results expected on November 23. The current Assembly’s term concludes on November 26.
