Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that light motor vehicles will no longer have to pay tolls at the five toll booths entering Mumbai. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting and will take effect after midnight. The toll booths affected include Dahisar, Anand Nagar, Vaishali, Airoli, and Mulund. Previously, charges ranged from Rs. 45 to Rs. 75, impacting around 2.8 lakh light vehicles daily. This move is expected to save time for commuters who previously waited in long queues.

Other Cabinet Decisions

In addition to the toll exemption, the Maharashtra Cabinet has increased the salaries of teachers in Madrasas. D.Ed. teachers will see their monthly pay rise from Rs 6,000 to Rs 16,000, while B.Ed. teachers will receive Rs 18,000 instead of Rs 8,000. The Cabinet also approved increasing the share capital of the Maulana Azad Minority Economic Development Corporation to Rs 1,000 crores.

Honoring Ratan Tata

The Cabinet has decided to name the Maharashtra Skill Development Corporation after the late Ratan Tata. A resolution was also passed urging the Centre to award the Bharat Ratna to Ratan Tata, who passed away recently at the age of 86. His contributions as Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons were recognized, and his final rites were conducted with full state honors in Mumbai.
