Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) have the potential to become a $1.5 trillion economy. Speaking at the Thane Vikas Parishad, Shinde highlighted that this was the first time such a large conference was held in Thane.

Shinde mentioned a meeting with B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, CEO of NITI Aayog, where eight sectors were suggested to achieve this economic goal. He also boasted about recent infrastructure developments, including the Atal Setu, the coastal highway, the extension of the Eastern Freeway towards Thane, and a new airport in Navi Mumbai.

The conference was attended by senior government officials and businessmen, including officers from the World Bank. Earlier, Shinde participated in a beach cleanup event at Juhu Beach for International Coastal Cleanliness Day, led by Union Minister Bhupender Yadav. Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan and Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani were also present. The campaign covered over 100 beaches across India’s coastal states and union territories.
