In Nagpur, Maharashtra, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde accused Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray of using Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s name for political gain while comparing his actions to those of historical figures Aurangzeb and Afzal Khan. Shinde criticized Thackeray for being ousted from power two years ago and claimed he is now exploiting Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy for political purposes.

Shinde expressed sadness over the opposition’s actions, stating that Shivaji Maharaj should not be a political issue but a matter of identity and faith. He condemned the incident where two JCBs were used to uproot Shivaji Maharaj’s statue in Karnataka and criticized the opposition for protesting instead of addressing the real issue.

Earlier, Uddhav Thackeray addressed a protest rally, accusing the current government of insulting Maharashtra’s soul and targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Thackeray claimed that wherever Modi intervenes, the truth is destroyed and criticized him for not showing genuine remorse over the statue collapse.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously apologized to the people of Maharashtra for the collapse of the 35-foot-tall statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg, which had been unveiled during Navy Day celebrations last year. Modi also criticized the opposition for not being apologetic about the incident.
