Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 24: Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule criticized the Congress party for their negative comments on the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. He accused Congress of engaging in ‘nautanki’ (a popular folk performance) and claimed they have done nothing for the people in the last 55 years.

Bawankule stated, “Congress party is a nautanki, the one that dances…They have done nothing in 55 years whether constructing roads or for farmers…Congress has taken votes by confusing them. We worked for the votes we won…”

He also mentioned that Congress is only interested in Television Rating Points (TRP) and pointed out that Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray admitted he does not understand the Budget. Bawankule said, “They (Congress) care only about TRPs…Uddhav Thackeray has himself said that he does not understand the Budget. I don’t think he has a right to comment on it. They are doing nautanki.”

Bawankule praised the Budget, saying it will lead India towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (developed India) as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added, “Whatever PM Modi had mentioned in our party’s manifesto, of Viksit Bharat, has been included in the budget…”

Looking ahead to the state assembly elections, Bawankule expressed confidence in Maharashtra’s development under the ‘double-engine government’ in the next five years. He warned that the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) might halt all schemes of the current government if they come to power.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her seventh consecutive Union Budget for 2024-25, making history as the first finance minister to do so. She outlined nine priority areas including agriculture, employment, and urban development. The budget also introduced significant income-tax reforms and proposed creating employment for about 4.1 crore youth over the next five years with an allocation of Rs 2 lakh crore.
