Maharashtra Assembly Polls: Seat-Sharing Talks and Allegations of Voter Manipulation

As the Maharashtra assembly elections approach, both the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi are finalizing their seat-sharing arrangements. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that discussions are in the final stages, with the first list of candidates expected soon. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde confirmed positive discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, indicating that the seat-sharing formula is nearly complete.

Sources reveal that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have almost finalized their seat-sharing formula for the 288 assembly seats. The Shinde group is expected to contest 85-90 seats, Ajit Pawar’s faction 50 seats, and the remaining by the BJP.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala stated that seat-sharing talks within the Maha Vikas Aghadi are ongoing, with an announcement expected soon. However, tensions have arisen between Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress, with Congress Chief Nana Patole commenting on internal leadership dynamics.

Concerns about election transparency have been raised by MVA leaders, including Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, who accused the ruling coalition of manipulating voter lists. The MVA has approached the Election Commission regarding these allegations. Maharashtra’s elections are scheduled for November 20, with results on November 23.
