Maharashtra Assembly Elections: Seat Sharing and Preparations
As the Maharashtra assembly elections approach, Congress’ in-charge for Maharashtra, Ramesh Chennithala, announced that the party is working on giving representation to all alliance partners, though seats are limited. A Central Election Committee meeting is being held online to finalize the second list of candidates.
Seat Sharing Details
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which includes the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar), has agreed on a seat-sharing arrangement. Each party will contest 85 seats out of the 255 constituencies. The remaining 23 seats will be allocated based on party candidate lists.

The ruling Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, is also preparing for the elections. The Maharashtra Assembly elections are set for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23.
In previous elections, the BJP and Shiv Sena have been strong contenders, with the BJP winning 105 seats in 2019 and 122 in 2014.
