Madhya Pradesh’s New Budget: More Money for Schools, Health, and Roads
On Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Jagdish Devda, presented a budget of Rs 3,65,067 crores for the fiscal year 2024-25. This budget is 16% higher than last year’s Rs 3.14 lakh crores.
Key Allocations
The budget aims to double in size over the next five years and focuses on various sectors:
- Women and Child Development: Rs 26,560 crore, an 81% increase from last year.
- Health: Rs 21,444 crore.
- Agriculture and Allied Sectors: Rs 66,605 crore.
- Education: Rs 52,682 crore.
- Sports and Youth Welfare: Rs 586 crore.
Infrastructure and Development
Significant funds are allocated for infrastructure:
- Public Health Engineering: Rs 10,279 crore.
- Energy Sector: Rs 19,406 crore.
- Irrigation Projects: Rs 13,596 crore.
- Roads and Bridges: Rs 10,000 crore.
Social Welfare
The budget also includes provisions for social welfare:
- Scheduled Tribes Sub-Plan: Rs 40,804 crore.
- Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan: Rs 27,900 crore.
- Backward Classes and Minority Welfare: Rs 1,704 crore.
- Panchayat and Rural Development: Rs 27,870 crore.
- Urban Development: Rs 16,744 crore.
- Pension and Welfare Schemes: Rs 4,421 crore.
Other Sectors
Additional allocations include:
- Industry: Rs 4,190 crore.
- Forest and Environment: Rs 4,725 crore.
- Culture: Rs 1,081 crore.
- Tourist Facilities: Rs 666 crore.
