The Budhni seat, a stronghold of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, became vacant after his election as a Member of Parliament from Vidisha. The Vijaypur seat opened up when former Congress MLA Ramniwas Rawat joined the BJP and became the Forest and Environment Minister in Yadav’s cabinet.
