Madhya Pradesh ATS Arrests Nepal Singh for Illegal Arms Trade

The Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested a 33-year-old man named Nepal Singh for his alleged involvement in an interstate illegal arms trade. The arrest took place on the Agra-Mumbai Road in Indore, where officials recovered two country-made pistols, magazines, and over 200 barrels and shutter tubes from his possession.

During initial questioning, Nepal Singh revealed that he had ordered the pistols and barrels from Surat, Gujarat, intending to sell them. He is part of the Sikligar community, known for illegal arms manufacturing and smuggling. The ATS is investigating further to identify others involved in this network, including couriers and suppliers.

A case has been registered against Nepal Singh under section 25(1)(a) of the Arms Act at the STF/ATS Police Station in Bhopal. The investigation is ongoing.

Earlier this year, in March, the ATS conducted a successful raid on an illegal arms factory in Khargone, arresting four individuals from the Sikligar community and seizing over 800 high-quality barrels and other materials. This operation exposed a significant interstate network.

The Madhya Pradesh Police, under ‘Operation Prahar,’ has been actively targeting illegal arms trade. Since January, they have raided and dismantled 22 illegal arms factories in districts like Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, and Burhanpur, seizing a large quantity of illegal arms and equipment. To date, 498 illegal pistols and guns, along with 98 cartridges, have been recovered, and 72 individuals have been arrested.
