M Rohini from Tiruchirappalli Becomes First Tribal Student to Join NIT Trichy
M Rohini, an 18-year-old girl from Tiruchirappalli district in Tamil Nadu, has made history by becoming the first tribal student to gain admission to the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy. She scored 73.8% in the JEE mains exam and secured a seat in the Chemical Engineering department.
Rohini expressed her gratitude to her teachers for their support in her studies. She also thanked the Tamil Nadu state government and Chief Minister MK Stalin for offering to pay her fees. Rohini said, “I am a student from a tribal community who studied in a tribal government school. I appeared in the JEE exam and secured 73.8 per cent. I have secured a seat in NIT Trichy and I opted for Chemical Engineering.”
Her success is particularly remarkable given her disadvantaged background. Her parents are daily wage workers, and she also worked as a daily wage worker while preparing for the entrance exam. Rohini said, “My parents are daily wage workers and even I also worked as a daily wage worker while preparing for the exam. Since I studied well I got a seat in Trichy NIT.”
