Telangana-based environmentalist M Karunakar Reddy has been chosen for the inaugural Jadav Payeng International Award. This award, established by the Jyoti-Protap Education Trust in Assam’s Jorhat district, includes a prize of Rs 2 lakh and a citation. The award ceremony is scheduled for January next year.

About the Award

The Jadav Payeng International Award was created to honor efforts in climate action and nature conservation. It will be awarded annually to individuals with significant contributions in these fields. The award is named after Padma Shri Jadav Payeng, known as the ‘Forest Man of India’ for his work in creating a vast forest in Assam.

Selection and Ceremony

Rituraj Phukan, a member of the selection committee, announced that M Karunakar Reddy, often referred to as the ‘water man of India,’ will be the first recipient. The award ceremony will take place at Jyoti Protap Bidyalay, Teok, in January 2025.
