M. Altaf Butt Criticizes Poor Sanitation in Muzaffarabad, PoJK

In Muzaffarabad, Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), the local administration has failed to maintain adequate cleanliness, causing health and sanitation problems for residents. Despite municipal elections, related institutions remain inactive due to a lack of funds.

Health Concerns During Monsoon

Maulana Muhammad Altaf Butt, a former PoJK Assembly candidate, highlighted the worsening conditions during the rainy season. He noted that garbage piles up, spreading diseases, and medicines are unavailable in the two major hospitals of Muzaffarabad.

Sanitation Departments Underfunded

Butt stated, “Almost all the cities of PoJK, including Muzaffarabad, have a sanitation department, but they are not performing adequately due to a lack of funds from the PoJK administration.” Activists have previously demanded better sanitation, but no significant improvements have been seen.

Daily Struggles of Locals

Butt emphasized that locals frequently face disease outbreaks due to dirty surroundings, clogged drains, and uncollected garbage, especially during the monsoon. He attributed the poor conditions to inadequate wages for sanitation workers and insufficient funding from the administration.

Call for Action

Butt urged the administration to ensure adequate funds and proper wages to improve the sanitation system and address the daily issues faced by the residents of Muzaffarabad.
